Samsung launches its E6 ebook reader in the US

On March 9, 2010, Samsung announced its first ebook reader, the E6, for the US market. In a nutshell, the E6 has a slider form which incorporates a 6-inch e-ink display with a resolution of 600×800 with 8-gray scale for easy readability both indoors and out. Supported file formats include the very popular e-pub, PDF/a, TXT, bmp and jpg formats.
The E6 features 2GB of integrated memory that can be expanded using the external Micro SD card slot by an additional 16GB. It allows for connectivity between public and private spaces, with both a Wi-Fi network and bluetooth 2.0 connectivity.
The E6 offers a text-to-speech function in which all books effectively become audio books as the reader reads text aloud. But it is perhaps the electromagnetic resonance (EMR) stylus pen that really sets this ereader apart from the competition. This EMR stylus grants users the writing capabilities that are typically associated only with traditional paper books, such as making annotations in the margins and on the text.
Through Samsung’s partnership with Barnes & Noble, users will have the ability to browse, sample, purchase and download a wide variety of content from the world’s largest e-book store once connected to the internet.
And the price? Well, Samsung have not hinted in any way about how much the E6 will set you back but with its availability deemed almost immediate, I am sure we will know sooner rather than later.
